The Appellate Court-Sofia upheld the decision of the Sofia City Court, which granted the prosecution's request to issue a European arrest warrant for former Bulgarian Development Bank Executive Director Stoyan Mavrodiev. While in the previous session at the Sofia City Court Mavrodiev was represented by an ex-officio lawyer, now, despite being wanted, he sent an authorised lawyer.

On August 22, Stoyan Mavrodiev was declared wanted in Bulgaria by a decision of the Anti-Corruption Commission, reported the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office. Mavrodiev was declared wanted after being charged with major embezzlement in connection with an unsecured loan of some EUR 75 million granted by the Bulgarian Development Bank in 2019 to the Roadway Construction company linked to businessman Rumen Gaytanski.
