Citizens protest against the construction of a wind farm in Dobrudja

Representatives of the national citizens' initiative "The White Swallow" are protesting today in front of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water in Varna.

The protest was prompted by an upcoming meeting on the construction of a wind farm in Dobrich province, near the villages of Slaveevo, Pchelino and Odertsi.

Dobrich is on the Dobrudzha plateau, known as "the breadbasket of Bulgaria" for its fertile soil and grain crops. Agriculture is the most important part of the local economy.
The White Swallow initiative is calling on the authorities to "stop the destruction of Bulgaria's national wealth by the illegal actions of municipal councils and regional governors who have made agricultural land available for the construction of wind turbines". The turbines, says the White Swallow, "are harmful to human health and are destroying Bulgarian agriculture".
