The topic of restoring state funding for the newspaper of Bulgarians in Ukraine “Roden Krai” was raised at the forum “33 years of independence of Ukraine: a common path to the achievements and contributions of representatives of national minorities of Ukraine”, which was held on December 4 in Kyiv.
“I expressed support for the restoration of state funding for the Ukrainian newspaper for Bulgarians ‘Roden Krai’, which has been published since 1989," Sergiy Osadchyi, representative of the Bulgarian community in Ukraine and chairman of Kirovograd regional society of Bulgarians, told BTA. In 2019, the Odessa regional council and the Ministry of Culture in Kyiv withdrew from the composition of the founding members of the newspaper.
The current funding from Bulgaria is not enough for the normal functioning of the editorial office, Osadchyi said and added that the publication of the weekly costs 30,000 euros annually, and its readers are about 250,000 Ukrainian Bulgarians.
