Nasar started with a record in the snatch event, lifting 183 kg and breaking the previous record by 1 kg, which was held by Colombian Yeison Lopez. He set a new world record in the total after his second clean and jerk attempt, where he lifted 222 kg. Thus, he bettered his own world record of 404 kg in the total, set at the Paris Olympics.
