The Bulgarian film "Tarika", directed by Milko Lazarov, won the Best Film award in the international competition category at the 30th Kolkata International Film Festival held in India. "Tarika" won the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award, accompanied by a prize of EUR 57,000, reported BTA. Director Milko Lazarov also received the FIPRESCI Award of the International Federation of Film Critics.
The film tells the story of a father's love for his daughter, Tarika, a girl with special abilities, which puts him at odds with the prejudiced residents of a border town, according to Hindustan Times. "My film is about the freedom of the soul. Cinema has a universal language. I am happy that it received such great recognition here", Milko Lazarov told the Press Trust of India after the ceremony.
