The newest tourist attraction in Sofia - "Tram 83" of the Sofia Tourism Administration, will be inaugurated today with brass music of the representative orchestra of the Bulgarian Land Forces.
The tram, located on Banski Square opposite the Central Sofia Market Hall, will function as a static tourist information centre. It was restored in 2015 at the initiative of the Public Transport and Infrastructure Association.
For over 36 years, the MAN-Simens trams were part of the daily life of the capital's citizens. Tram 83 and tram 92 continued to operate as service units until the mid-1980s. In 1999, tram 92 was restored and became the first attraction tram in Sofia.
To mark the opening of the Tourist Information Centre "Tram 83," Sofia Tourism Administration is organising a free tour with retro Tram 92. The tour will run three times and will cover major landmarks in Sofia. Each passenger will receive an authentic ticket in the spirit of the 1930s and the conductor will punch the tickets with the date of the journey.
