Avalanche buries 2 snowboarders and a skier in the Pirin, one is dead

An avalanche has slid down the Pirin Mountains and buried several people. The mountain rescue service reported that one of the buried individuals, a 25-year-old snowboarder, has died. Two others, another snowboarder and a skier, were injured. All were wearing avalanche transceivers, according to the Focus news agency.

According to initial information, the avalanche was triggered by winter sports enthusiasts who were descending one of the slopes on Todorka Peak towards the Vihren Chalet above Bansko. A group of seven rescuers with a dog immediately rushed to the site, reports Kathy Trencheva of BNR-Blagoevgrad.

Due to the warmer temperatures in recent days, skiing outside the Pirin ski area has become dangerous, and there is a high risk of avalanches, mountain rescuers have warned.
