The registration of a second Bulgarian Orthodox Church marks the beginning of a new schism. The position of the "BSP-United Left" states that the decision of the Supreme Court of Cassation on the registration of a second Orthodox Church is a heavy blow to Orthodox Christianity in Bulgaria.

The Socialists recall that attempts at secular and political interference in Bulgarian church life are not unknown and the first blow, under the governments of Filip Dimitrov and Ivan Kostov, was overcome with great efforts of the entire Orthodox community and institutions.

The Socialists point out that there is no second Catholic Church in the world, as well as similar precedents for other faiths.

The United Left also points out that the purpose of the decision is to legitimize a new church schism with the clear and visible support of the European Court of Human Rights, after the categorical refusal of registration by the Bulgarian courts in recent years.

By emphasizing the importance of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for the preservation of the Bulgarian spirit and identity, "BSP-United Left" calls on Bulgarian society to stand behind Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil in support of the Holy Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
