Due to military conflicts, four thousand children from Syria, Afghanistan and Morocco sought protection in Bulgaria in 2024. The data is from a UNICEF report, according to which 2024 was "one of the most devastating for children in conflict situations" in the entire history of the organization.

From the beginning of the war in Ukraine until December 18 this year, 201,389 people have received temporary protection in Bulgaria, of which nearly 60 thousand are children. Currently, there are just over 70 thousand refugees from Ukraine in Bulgaria as 40% of them are children.

UNICEF points out that 2024 has become the deadliest year in the history of humanitarian organizations, with 281 aid workers killed worldwide, which surpasses previous records.

The organization calls on all parties to conflicts and those who have influence over them to take decisive action to end the suffering of children, ensure respect for their rights and comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law.
