"According to the church's rules, there cannot be two Orthodox churches in one place, on one canonical territory", Patriarch Daniil told journalists regarding the decision of the Supreme Court of Cassation to register the Bulgarian Orthodox Old Calendar Church in the register of religious denominations.

Patriarch Daniil stated that according to the Religious Denominations Act in Bulgaria, the traditional religion in the country is Eastern Orthodoxy, and the representative of this faith is the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Bulgarian Patriarchate. ''With the court ruling, it seems as though we are going back years'', said Patriarch Daniil.

"When the schism came about, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church suffered to explain to the state that an Orthodox Church is one that is in communion with the other Orthodox Churches. This is why the Pan-Orthodox Council was convened in 1998", Patriarch Daniil further said.
