“There is only one Orthodox church. The traditional religion in Bulgaria is Eastern Orthodoxy, and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is its sole exponent and representative. That is what I said during a meeting with Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil,” GERB leader Boyko Borissov writes on Facebook.

Boyko Borissov goes on to write that the same thing is also enshrined in the provisions of the law on religion. Borissov posted the above comment after the 16 December Supreme Court of Cassation decision that the Bulgarian Orthodox Old Calendar Church must be registered in the register of religious denominations, by force of Article 18 of the Law on Religion. The political parties Vazrazhdane and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) have also taken a stand against the Supreme Court of Cassation decision.
