Surva Mummers' Festival is visiting Sofia on January 5

The Borisova Garden in the heart of Sofia will once again become the stage for the Surva mummers' festival traditionally held in the town of Pernik. For the third consecutive year, Sofia residents and guests of the capital will be able to enjoy the characteristic masks and costumes and the ancient tradition of the kukeri (mummers). The event will take place on Sunday, January 5, at 12:00.

The festival will begin with a parade of survakari groups from Pernik and the Pernik villages of Meshtitsa, Gabrov Dol, Rasnik, Stefanovo, Cherna Gora, Noevtsi, Kladnitsa, Sopitsa.


Nearly 200 participants will take to the stage, who will recreate the magic of Surva and show why this festival is included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
