Danube Bridge repairs hinder border traffic in Ruse

Traffic at the border crossings of Bulgaria is normal, the Border Police has reported. However, about 200 trucks are waiting to cross the Danube Bridge and have parked on the boulevards in Ruse.

The trucks are waiting because of repairs on the bridge and the removal of the so-called "virtual queue". Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov said that heavy traffic is expected to come from the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing with Turkiye on Thursday and Friday. He has proposed to the government measures to ease traffic in the difficult conditions of single-lane movement of vehicles on the bridge.

About 35-37 cars and about 20 trucks are allowed to cross in each direction for an interval of 7 minutes. When Bulgaria was not yet a member of the Schengen area, during the bridge repairs about 12 trucks and 23 cars were allowed to cross in both directions for the same 7-minute interval, Draganov pointed out.
