According to her, cynicism is the biggest blow to humanity. Fired from Bulgarian cinematography in 1989, she emigrated to Brazil to live with her daughter Elitsa Bachvarova. "Emigrating does not mean abandoning your civic conscience", Svoboda Bachvarova said.
