The Municipality of Varna is organizing a celebration for the 150th anniversary of the birth of great architect Dabko Dabkov (21.01.1875 - 08.04.1945). The anniversary will be marked today with a discussion in the municipality at 16:00 on the topic "The Man-Architect Dabko Dabkov" by Hristiyan Oblakov - author of the program "The Architecture of Old Varna" and of two books about the architect.

Dabko Dabkov designed and participated in the construction of more than 200 landmark buildings in Varna. He is the author of such remarkable buildings as the Aquarium in the Sea Garden, the London Hotel (currently the Musala Hotel), the Naval Forces Headquarters (a joint project with architect Stefan Venedikt Popov).

After the political changes and the coming of a communist regime in Bulgaria after September 9, 1944, Dabkov was declared an "enemy of the people". Under the shadow of this humiliation, after a life lived with great dignity, he died in 1945 at the age of 70. Hundreds of Varna residents sent him on his last earthly journey, but gradually his name sank into oblivion, Oblakov says.
