Bulgaria’s Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova said that she is concerned about the current state of the country’s finances, which, according to her, is a result of unreasonable policies in this area over the past three years. According to Temenuzhka Petkova, the deficit is 18 billion BGN (EUR 9 billion). The state will not be able to make large investments in infrastructure by the end of March, Minister Petkova said. According to her, the longer there is no regular budget, the larger the deficit will be, which is why a law with the necessary measures must be drafted in the shortest possible time.

Earlier today, the government headed by Rosen Zhelyazkov decided to withdraw the 2025 draft budget, as well as the draft bills on the State Social Security and the National Health Insurance Fund submitted by the previous caretaker cabinet. The tax legislation package will also be pulled out. The government will propose a new draft budget by February 14.

At the beginning of the first meeting of the new cabinet, Premier Zhelyazkov justified the decision by stating that a more accurate assessment of the budget's capabilities and the medium-term budget forecast needs to be made.
