Kenneth Merten is no longer the Ambassador of the United States of America to Bulgaria. Martin McDowell, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, becomes the Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the United States in Sofia, Bulgaria

Kenneth Merten submitted his resignation, which was accepted by U.S. President Donald Trump. “It is common practice when a new administration takes office in the U.S. that all acting ambassadors submit a letter offering their resignation.
