After it became clear that the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation was on the verge of bankruptcy, DPS-New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski met with the federation's president Stefan Botev and promised to find a solution to the problem.
"Thanks to this support, Bulgarian weightlifters will have normal conditions for training for international competitions and will bring glory to Bulgaria again," the DPS-New Beginning press centre said. Peevski and Botev stressed that the federation's licence should not be withdrawn and that the Bulgarian athletes, who have brought so much pride to Bulgaria, should not be left without support.
The Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation is facing bankruptcy after accumulating debts of nearly 1 million leva (500 000 euro), which it is unable to repay.
The Sofia City Court was expected to officially declare the federation bankrupt on January 28, but the decision was postponed for at least a month to allow for an expert assessment of its financial situation.
