Taxi drivers gathered at Sofia Airport in protest, blocking access to Terminal 2 for a short time on Friday afternoon. They are unhappy with the new rules for staying at the airport, which came into force on January 9. According to the new rules, one can stay in the airport car park for 10 minutes free of charge, and the next entry, if it is within an hour, must be paid for. The industry is demanding the immediate repeal of the rules, which it says are discriminatory, unfair to customers and will lead to a loss of business.
The protest forced passengers arriving at the airport to exit their cars before the blocked barriers and walk to the terminal.

The taxi drivers' union says that if their demands are not met, the protest will escalate into a 24-hour blockade starting Monday. In the event of such a protest, citizens and visitors to Sofia are advised to use the metro to and from the airport, and departing passengers are specifically advised to arrive at the airport three hours instead of two before their flight.
