25.7% of Bulgarians support the adoption of the euro as of 1 January, 2026, and 30.8% accept it as an indispensable condition of the country’s membership of the EU but want it to happen later. According to a survey by Myara sociological agency, in response to the question whether they are for or against Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro in principle, 57.1% of the respondents state they are against, and 39% that they are for.
The data are from an independent survey conducted by telephone by Myara sociological agency, 29-31 January, 2025, among 801 adults, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.
Given the options: introducing the euro on 1 January, 2025, postponement or not introducing the euro at all, there is no clear majority on the matter, though the option “never adopt the euro” garners a serious percentage - 41.4%
The results of the survey confirm the conclusions reached also by other agencies that skepticism is higher among the older segment of the population, Myara sociologists say, and add that this opinion is formed on the basis of nostalgia, fear of a rise in the cost of living, a malicious campaign against the euro and lack of adequate information.
