The official start of the work of the “Vitosha” tunnel boring machine for the expansion of Line 3 of the capital's metro to the "Slatina" district is on February 6. The machine will depart from the metro station at Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd. in the direction of the station next to the "Arena 8888 Sofia" hall and Sofia Tech Park. The machine weighs 1,600 tons and is about 86 meters long. It is planned to achieve an average progress of over 10 meters per day.
We recall that on January 28, the 27th anniversary of the opening of the first section of the metro was marked. Today, it already has three lines. 10 new stations are currently being built. The plans are for them to be ready in 2027. With them, the metro will take 46% of the daily passenger flow.
In parallel with the construction of the 10 new metro stations, preliminary studies are being carried out for future extensions of the metro to Studentski Grad and to the lower lift station of the Simeonovski lift.
