The Museum of the Bulgarian National Revival in Varna presents a collection of 15 authentic folk costumes from the collection of the Historical Museum in the town of Popovo. The valuable costumes are from the regions of Elhovo, Ivaylovgrad, as well as places that are currently within the borders of Greece - the town of Gyumyurdzhina, the town of Soflu, the town of Dedeagach, the village of Dogan Hisar – the places where Captain Petko Voyvoda (6.12.1844 – 7.02.1900) lived and developed his revolutionary activities, as he dedicated his life to the freedom of the oppressed within the Ottoman Empire.
The clothes in the exhibition "From the Cinema Center to the Museum Showcase" belong to a collection gathered by the team of the popular at the end of the 20th century 12-part Bulgarian television film "Captain Petko Voyvoda". When filming the story, over 300 elements of costumes and accessories were used, all of which were most likely made in the 19th century. The film was shot by cinematographer Dimo Kolarov, who is originally from Popovo and after the end of the filming, he gave the idea to donate the costumes to the Society of Thracian Bulgarians in the village of Svetlen, Popovo Region. They were subsequently handed over to the Historical Museum in Popovo, where there are conditions for their maintenance and preservation.
The exhibition can be seen until March 7.
