A drone detected in the area around Sofia Airport caused some landing delays last night, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports, citing the airport press centre. No flights have been diverted but temporary changes were made to the schedule over safety concerns.
The competent services and the Interior Ministry have been notified of the incident. A criminal investigation has been launched, the owner of the drone is wanted by the police. The National Board for Aircraft, Maritime and Railway Accident Investigation confirmed the initial information, for the BTA, that the drone was intercepted near one of the runways close to a Sofia residential area.
Operating drones over airports and along flight paths is absolutely prohibited, Sofia Airport says.
