Bulgaria's Adriana Boyadzhieva wins gold medal at European Karate Championship

Adriana Boyadzhieva brought Bulgaria's first gold medal at the European Karate Championship in the Polish city of Bielsko-Biala. In the final of the 54 kg category kumite Adriana recorded a new convincing success - over Sofia Halievska from Ukraine with 7:0 and won the first place in her category.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov congratulated Adriana Boyadzhieva on the success, the Council of Ministers announced. "With a strong spirit and impressive performance, she deservedly climbed to the top in the 54 kg kumite category. This success is a source of pride for Bulgaria and proof of the talent and perseverance of our athletes. Bravo, Adriana!", the government's Facebook page wrote.

Over 1,200 athletes from 49 countries are participating in the tournament in Poland as they are competing for the kata and kumite titles. Bulgaria is represented by 22 competitors - 19 in kumite and three in kata.
