Night public transport in Sofia will not be stopped

Night public transport in Sofia will continue to operate. This was decided at today's meeting of the Sofia Municipal Council after heated debates. The topic of night public transport in the capital was returned for new discussion by Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, after in January the municipal councillors voted "in favor" of stopping two of the four night public transport lines in the capital, while the other would have operated only on Fridays and Saturdays. The proposal was submitted by municipal councilors Vanya Grigorova from "BSP for Bulgaria" and Carlos Contrera from VMRO on the grounds that night transport is underused.

Night transport is a key transport service for every city, said Andrey Zografski, a municipal councilor from PP-DB - "Save Sofia". According to Zografski, GERB and BSP want Sofia residents to be dependent on the taxi industry. "We will propose a general change in night public transport, which would include a total of six lines, one for the airport," he added.
