On February 15 and 16, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is holding its 51st Congress. Interim Chairman Atanas Zafirov is expected to present a report on the past period. The delegates are also expected to vote on amendments to the party's statute, which would reinstate the old system where the chairman is elected by the Congress, rather than by a direct vote. There will also be discussions on removing the restriction that prevents a Member of Parliament from being the chairman of a party organization, as well as abolishing the term limits for MPs. Currently, BSP members cannot serve as MPs for more than 12 years.

17 members of the Bulgarian Socialist Party applied for the position of chairperson, but later five of them withdrew.
