Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil will celebrate the first liturgy in London for the consecration of the new church of the Bulgarian Orthodox community in the British capital - the church of Saint Ivan Rilski. The church is part of the Bulgarian Embassy in London and will be consecrated on February 23.

In attendance with Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil will be the Archbishop Nikitas of Thyatira and Great Britain of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as representatives of all local Orthodox churches on the Island. The event will be attended by the Mayor of Westminster Municipality, representatives of the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches, as well as many Orthodox churches.

The consecration of the new church is the fruit of the hard and dedicated work of Metropolitan Anthony, the Bulgarian state, Bulgarians in the UK and representatives of Bulgarian businesses. The new church will contribute to the unity of our Orthodox community and the spiritual care of generations of Bulgarians, the embassy said in a statement.

The visit of the Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil will be the first official one beyond the borders of Bulgaria to the diocese in Western and Central Europe.
