According to data from Eurostat, Bulgaria has met the final criterion for joining the eurozone, namely price stability, Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova announced at the beginning of an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers. She stated that today is a very important day for the country.

"Bulgaria meets the final criterion for eurozone membership. This gives us the grounds to make a decision today to submit a request to the European Commission and the European Central Bank for the preparation of extraordinary convergence reports for Bulgaria."

The extraordinary convergence report on Bulgaria's readiness to join the eurozone will be requested as soon as the work on the state budget is completed, clarified Denitsa Sacheva, deputy leader of the parliamentary group of GERB-SDS. The budget is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly today.
