The Bulgarian Sunday school "Priest Alexander Cikirik" in the town of Edirne close to the Bulgarian-Turkish border is now attended by 55 children. It was opened in 2017 at the Consulate General of Bulgaria. In one school year, the children there study 120 hours of Bulgarian.

The emigrants who left Bulgaria as children do not know the language, but they want their children to learn it in order to maintain their connection with Bulgaria. says Bahtishen Mutlu, who teaches Bulgarian. She is from Isperih and left her hometown during the events of 1989.

The school in Edirne is currently housed in two rooms. Opportunities are being sought to expand. The budget is very meager, Mutlu pointed out to the BNR reporter in Kardzhali Valya Apostolova.

The school is supported by various organizations from Turkiye and Bulgaria.
