Bulgaria is to take part in common procurement procedures in the sphere of defence at an EU level, under projects for the acquisition of IRIS-T air defence systems and CAESAR self-propelled howitzers.

The Ministry of Defence applied for and received approval for participation in the two projects in 2024, via the European defence industry reinforcement through common procurement act (EDIRPA), aimed at enhancing solidarity, effectivity and the competitiveness of the European technological and industrial defence base. This was made clear in a written response by Minister of Defence Atanas Zapryanov to a question by MP from PP/DB Ivaylo Mirchev
