Viktoriya Tomova started the Indian Wells tennis tournament with a win against Olga Danilović (Serbia). Tomova won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) after 98 minutes of play.

Viktoriya Tomova had the upper hand in all aspects of the game against Serbia's top-ranked player. This is her second victory in four matches against the Serbian tennis player. In early February, the two faced each other at a tournament in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca, where Tomova again won the match.

In the second round, Viktoriya Tomova will play against 29th seed Maria Sakkari from Greece. The two have met five times, with Sakkari leading 4-1 in their head-to-head record.
