Hundreds of citizens protest for rule of law and fair elections

Hundreds of citizens protested last night in central Sofia and other major cities, expressing support for rule of law and free and fair elections. The protest was mottoed ''Who Blocked the Constitution''.

''In a criminal symbiosis, the state-owned company Information Services and the prosecutor’s office are blocking the work of the Constitutional Court and trying to circumvent the Constitution in order to preserve the fake election results, the power of GERB, and the influence of Delyan Peevski'', said the organizers from the “Justice for All” initiative.

The protest in the capital city began in front of the Sofia Court House and grew into a peaceful procession along central boulevards to the historic building of the National Assembly. Among the participants were Kiril Petkov, Nikolai Denkov and other MPs from We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB), former caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev and civil activists.

"There is no doubt that the prosecutor's office and prosecutors are pawns in the hands of Bulgaria's political patrons, those who want to control and captivate institutions. What has happened these days is that they want to render meaningless the elections through which you choose who and how to govern you. This is the greatest fear of the current politicians”, said Ilian Vassilev who was one of the organizers of the protest.

Meanwhile, supporters of "Velichie", a party that was 21 votes short of entering the National Assembly, also protested. They vowed to gather every evening in front of the parliament building, because, according to them, their party had been unlawfully deprived of the right to have MPs.
