Bulgarian Ministry of Transport confirms priority of Corridor No. 8 connecting the Adriatic with the Black Sea

Bulgaria's Ministry of Transport has been working for years to develop Corridor No. 8, connecting the Adriatic with the Black Sea through Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

Of the 1,220 km of railway line along the corridor, 747 km are on the territory of Bulgaria. Only 2.5 km from Gyueshevo to Deve Bair and North Macedonia remain to be built, the ministry recalls.
The section is financed under the Transport Connectivity Program 2021-2027 and will be completed on schedule by 2029, while the missing Macedonian section is 70 km.
“The claim that the country has postponed the modernization of the Bulgarian section is media speculation. The Radomir-Gyueshevo railway line is operational and after the completion of the 2.5 km section, it will be able to connect to the Macedonian railway network via a cross-border tunnel,” the ministry points out.
The statement was made in response to the letters sent by Skopje to the European institutions that the construction of Transport Corridor No. 8 is not a priority for Bulgaria.
