Stefanija Alexova, a sophomore at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG), is one of the victims of the Kočani fire. She was born in the Macedonian town, which became the scene of the tragedy where 59 people lost their lives and 155 were injured.

The sad news was announced by the university's president, Margee Ensign, in a message to the academic community published on the Facebook page of the American University in Bulgaria. Because of the tragedy in North Macedonia, AUBG is providing psychological support to its students.

The university will organize a memorial service in memory of Stefania. ''We are all feeling the weight of Stefanija's loss. We will hold a memorial service soon, where we will come together to honor her and take time off as a community. Right now, let’s be there for each other. This is a deeply sad time, and grief affects each of us differently'', wrote Margee Ensign.
