The Ministry of Tourism has ordered an inspection of Butamyata beach near Sinemorets following media reports and violations found by the Regional Environmental and Water Inspectorate - Burgas within the protected area, the ministry said. The Inspectorate's investigation found the importation of soil and construction activities at the site.
The ministry recalls that the concession agreement does not allow illegal construction or the installation of unauthorised facilities on the concession site and the adjacent water area.
"In the event of a violation of the contractual provisions, all sanctions provided for by current legislation and the contract will be applied, including the imposition of a fine and, in the case of a systematic violation, the termination of the concession," says Miroslav Borshosh, Minister of Tourism.
Later, at an unscheduled press conference, Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh said that his ministry would not allow illegal activities to take place on the beaches. If such cases are detected, they will be immediately removed and the most severe fines and sanctions will be imposed, and in the case of systematic violations on the beaches, the concessions will be cancelled.
Within 48 hours, a team from the Ministry will submit a report on the Butamyata beach case to all authorities and announce the penalties for the concessionaire.
The Silistar area, to which Butamyata beach belongs, is known for its rich biodiversity, including habitats for various species of birds and unique coastal vegetation. It was declared a protected area by the Ministry of the Environment in 1992. It is home to several endangered bird species, including the golden eagle and the black stork.
