The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has brought five members of an organized crime group to court over murder of 18 Afghan citizens, the institution reported.

The case dates back to February 17, 2023, when the migrants were found dead in an abandoned truck near the village of Lokorsko, close to Sofia. Another 34 men were found freezing and were admitted to hospitals. The indictment states that a total of 52 people were pressed tightly together into the truck, unable to breathe normally. The deaths of the deceased occurred in a particularly painful way, the prosecution added.
