The first vote of no confidence in the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov was expectedly unsuccessful. 150 MPs rejected the vote submitted by the parliamentary groups of "Vazrazhdane", MECH and "Velichie" over failure in foreign policy. 54 MPs voted "for" the vote. In order for the vote to pass, the request had to be supported by a minimum of 121 votes. Even when submitting the request for the vote, the leader of "Vazrazhdane" Kostadin Kostadinov admitted that it was mathematically doomed.

After the vote, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov thanked from the rostrum of the parliament for the support. "With this, you supported the European perspective for Bulgaria and the perspective for democratic development," he said.

The focus of the debates on the vote yesterday was on Bulgaria's policy towards the war in Ukraine and the country's position on the death of UN employee Captain Marin Marinov in Gaza. While "Vazrazhdane" were defending their motives, the MPs from PP-DB demonstratively left the plenary hall and announced that they would not support a request to overthrow the government before Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone, but that they themselves would request a vote of no confidence "the moment Bulgaria receives a date for accession".

"Vazrazhdane" and MECH have already announced that they are considering submitting new requests for a vote of no confidence. The "Zhelyazkov" cabinet was sworn in on January 16 this year.
