Since the beginning of the year, there has been a trend of decreasing traffic accidents on the territory of Sofia, as well as the number of people killed and injured in them compared to 2024, Commissioner Nikolay Krusharski, Head of the Traffic Police Department, pointed out in an interview with BNR.

Nearly 80,000 drivers in Sofia have been caught by the Traffic Police cameras driving at excessive speed.

"Irresponsible speed, failure to maintain the required distance and improper execution of the left turn maneuver are the most common causes of traffic accidents," the commissioner pointed out. "The drivers without license we have identified on the territory of the capital since the beginning of this year are 160", he also said.

Pedestrians are some of the most risky participants in traffic in the capital city. "Half of those killed in road accidents in 2024 are pedestrians over the age of 65," Commissioner Krusharski pointed out.
