Legislative changes accelerate introduction of digital technologies in small settlements

The parliament adopted on second reading amendments to the Electronic Communications Networks and Physical Infrastructure Act. The aim is to shorten the terms for issuing documents for construction and putting digital technologies into operation, BTA reports.

The project envisages building approximately 7,000 km of new optics and connect over 700 new base stations broadcasting 5G, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov said during the first reading. 140 municipal centers plus another 279 small settlements will be connected, which will benefit 350,000 people living in these areas, Karadjov added. This is also one of the measures included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

This is perhaps the largest-scale investment in broadband access for small, remote settlements, the Minister of Transport said after the adoption of the texts. Grozdan Karadjov recalled that today, April 11, is the last day to submit bids to participate in the tender for the construction of this network.
