Regional Minister Ivan Ivanov:

35 billion leva are needed for complete rehabilitation of Bulgaria's road network

The complete rehabilitation of Bulgaria's road network, including all compromised road sections, would cost around 35 billion leva, regional minister Ivan Ivanov told bTV. He added that it was not clear where these funds could be found.
According to the minister, the main problem remains the lack of sufficient funding.

“I feel in a very awkward situation when we have to pay nearly 1 billion leva since last year for activities ordered and completed years ago and now included in this budget, given that we have 1.280 billion leva,” Ivan Ivanov stressed. He will call on the Council of Ministers to show understanding, as the available funds are extremely insufficient.
“The anger of the people is completely justified,” the minister also said regarding the civil protests over the death of 12-year-old Siyana Popova who was killed in a road accident and the poor condition of the roads. 
According to him, the problems with the road infrastructure are on many levels, including the training of drivers and their driving style. “Inter-institutional actions are needed,” he summarized.
