Angel Rusev claimed his fifth European title in a row at the European Championships in Moldova after an extremely dramatic contest in the 55 kg category.

The 23-year-old Bulgarian made only one successful attempt in the 55kg category, but it was enough for him to secure victory with a total of 246 kg (105 kg in the snatch and 141 kg in the clean and jerk). Rusev was previously crowned continental champion from 2021 to 2024 and won a silver medal on his debut at the 2019 championships in Bucharest.
