The Bulgarian government today approved and submitted to the European Commission a request to amend the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The renegotiation of the plan has been highlighted as a priority for the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov. The amendments aim to adapt the plan to the changed economic and political environment, including the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, inflation and the dramatic increase in construction costs.

Sofia has also submitted the long-awaited proposal under the REPowerEU mechanism, which will allow the country to access additional funding of nearly €480 million. The proposal includes reforms and investments focused on increasing transparency in the integration of new renewable energy capacity, improving the balancing market, creating a framework for tackling energy poverty, installing photovoltaic systems in social service buildings and more.
