In an interview with public service TV BNT, Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who is on a working visit to Bulgaria, stated that Ukraine and the Ukrainian people very much wanted to become part of the EU and that at this rate we can hope to see Ukraine join in 2030. She added she hoped the peace negotiations between the US, Russia and Ukraine will be quick, adding that “we want to be part of them”. “For the first time in the history of the enlargement processes in the EU we have disruptive forces who would like to see us fail,” Marta Kos said. “This is the case in Georgia, this is the case in Ukraine.”

The Western Balkans are in a different position from Ukraine, with two favourites for now – Montenegro and Albania. We would like the negotiations with North Macedonia to open as soon as possible. We know that Bulgaria and Skopje will reach agreement regarding the protection of the Bulgarian minority, she said further.
