Israel takes responsibility for the death of Captain Marin Marinov in the Gaza Strip

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have admitted to mistakenly firing on a UN facility in central Gaza in March, killing an UN staffer, reported BTA. Until now, the IDF had denied responsibility for the March 19 strike in Deir al-Balah that killed Marin Marinov, a Bulgarian working for the United Nations. The Israeli military stated that the preliminary findings of the investigation into the death of the UN staff member in Gaza last month indicate that he was killed by fire from an Israeli tank, which had mistakenly shelled a UN facility.

Bulgaria will insist on fair compensation for the relatives of the deceased Captain Marin Marinov, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev in an official statement. He announced that Bulgaria had received an official apology from Israel over the death of the Bulgarian citizen. Minister Georgiev categorically called for such tragedies not to be repeated and said that the protection of humanitarian workers is of paramount importance.
