Bulgarian Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov has held a working meeting with US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. The two discussed strategic projects in the sphere of nuclear energy as a key guarantor of the region's long-term energy security. Stankov expressed Bulgaria's determination to build two new units at the Kozloduy NPP using the AP1000 technology of Westinghouse and to be the first in Europe with an operating reactor of this type.
The meeting also discussed the possibilities of creating artificial intelligence gigafactories to complement the nuclear infrastructure. Among the topics discussed were also projects for the construction of new pumped-storage power plants and for oil and natural gas exploration in the Bulgarian part of the Black Sea.
A symposium for suppliers, organized by Westinghouse, was held in Sofia today. According to Stankov, during the peak moments of the construction of units No. 7 and No. 8 of the Kozloduy NPP, about 10,000 people are expected to be employed.
