In Bulgaria, the legislation is so arranged that a nationwide strike cannot be held. This was explained to the Bulgarian National Radio by Todor Kapitanov, vice president of the largest trade union in the country, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (CITUB).

In recent years, the CITUB has organized about 70 protests, but they are in separate sectors, he said in an interview on the occasion of International Labor Day on May 1. In his words, everyone must fight fiercely for their survival and their decent remuneration and outlined a schedule of the next protests in May in the state media and public transport.

At this stage, the CITUB is categorically against raising the retirement age, explained the vice president of the trade union.

"The issue of years of service and retirement age is not among those that the CITUB will support," the trade unionist stated categorically.
