Vice President Iliana Iotova, the mayor of Shumen Municipality Prof. Hristo Hristov and the director of the Regional Library "Stiliyan Chilingirov", Rositsa Dobreva, opened the exhibition "Alphabet and History", presenting the stages in the development of the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets, BTA reported.
"You live on holy land, the land of the Preslav Literary School, which gave rise to the new Slavic civilization," the vice president said. According to Iliana Iotova, the monasteries, books, and manuscripts are a sign of immense spiritual power, which even today attests to the divine presence. The Cyrillic alphabet is one of the three official alphabets of Europe, and this is a source of pride and identity for us, Iotova pointed out and added:
"If it weren't for letters and faith, alphabets and books, probably there would have been no Bulgarians today."
