Europe Day was marked by raising the EU flag in front of the presidential building in Sofia earlier today. The ceremony was attended by President Rumen Radev, Parliament Speaker Natalia Kiselova, Vice President Iliana Iotova, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, political leaders, MEPs and representatives of religious communities.

The Bulgarian head of state received the guard of honor of the National Guard unit. The anthems of Bulgaria and the EU were also played.

Before that, flowers were laid at the monument to the Unknown Soldier in the capital in memory of the Bulgarian soldiers who died during World War II.

In a statement from the parliamentary rostrum, the political formations represented in the National Assembly divided on whether they celebrate Europe Day or the Victory over the Nazi Third Reich, but united in their insistence on preserving peace on the Old Continent.
