Today, employees of Bulgaria’s three public service media — the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) — are staging a national protest.
The rally, scheduled for 12:00 PM at the intersection in front of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", is demanding increased state funding to secure a 15% pay raise for the staff, who currently receive what they describe as insultingly low wages. This includes journalists, editors, camera operators, technicians, singers, orchestra members, etc.
The protest will take place under the slogan “Work In The Media Has Value”. Similar protest actions are planned in other cities across the country as well.
The protest is organized by the trade union structures of The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) and the Confederation of Labour "Podkrepa".
