Sofia Municipality declared that it would mobilize all its resources for the smooth conduct of the matriculation exams for high school graduates on May 21 and 23, Mayor Vasil Terziev announced on his Facebook page. Sofia remains without surface public transport for the fourth day now and signatures are currently being collected for indefinite strike action.

If the transport workers' unions decide to risk the future of young people, the municipality will do everything possible to ensure the smooth movement of high school graduates to their classrooms, the mayor said.

“Sofia has always shown that it is strong when faced with a challenge. This fully applies to those who care for our children. Schools, kindergartens and nurseries have repeatedly demonstrated that they can cope in extraordinary circumstances,” the mayor also wrote. He called on the Ministry of Education and Science to cooperate in developing a plan in case of need for transportation of high school graduates to the schools where the matriculation exams would be held.
